ATHENE NOCTUA “In Search of the Bronze Forest” 2019
Athene Noctua it ́s the new project of the Spanish sound artist José Ma Pérez-Flor Mejías, born in Cádiz in 1964 and now resident between Córdoba and Seville. Better known for other previous projects such as Tension Co., Feday, Cine-Oído or Centro Electromecánico, apart from being the creator and director of the sound art festival "Intr: Muros" (Cazalla de la Sierra, Sevilla), the live soundtracks festival "La Mirada Sonora" (Sevilla), and the Intr: Muros Laboratory hall located in the city of Seville.
Athene Noctua's music is based on the manipulation of acoustic instruments and sound objects from the natural environment by electronic devices, and on processed field recordings. Transit between the experimental ambient, full of organic nuances and textural micro-rhythms, and the abstract and hallucinated sound landscapes. Compositions that have given rise to his first work, published in CD format by his own Intronauta Music label in April 2019, which is entitled “In Search of the Bronze Forest”. The record is an initiatory journey through resonant night spaces whose sound base is instruments such as gong or gamelan, as well as other multiple metal sound objects, whose acoustic morphology has been mutated by different electronic devices in real time. It is a mixture that tries to combine with some sense the acoustic qualities of basic and organic elements of nature with the possibilities of post-digital music.
